FAQ: How is the File Name in a PowerCenter source Metadata Extension used when accessing a sequential datasets with PowerExchange?
Answer
When a PowerExchange data map is imported into PowerCenter the PowerCenter source will include information about the data map in the Metadata Extenesions of the source.
If this is a data map of a sequential file, the information imported will include the dataset (file) name from the PowerExchange datamap.   Unless this file name is overridden using File Name Override in the mapping tab of the PowerCenter task, this is the name that will get used for this object. This is true even if the dataset name in the datamap is changed.

More Information
This same dataset name will be retained if the PowerCenter source is migrated to another environment to be used to access a file (dataset) with a different name. It is advised that a PowerCenter parameter be used to override the file name, to facilitate migration of the source to other PowerCenter environments.
