FAQ: Can PowerCenter read an EBCDIC flat file?
Answer

A PowerCenter mapping can read from an EBCDIC flat file using either a VSAM source or a non-relational PowerExchange source.

VSAM source

The EBCDIC file must be fixed length. A delimited file or variable length file cannot be read.
This file is read using a PowerCenter Normalizer transformation.

For more details refer to

Non-Relational PowerExchange source

Using a Non-Relational PowerExchange source you can read a delimited or EBCDIC file in a PowerCenter session.

More Information

PowerCenter does not automatically convert an EBCDIC file to ASCII.
If the file has been transferred using FTP from a mainframe in binary mode then the file will be an EBCDIC file.

If the file has been transferred using FTP from a mainframe in ASCII mode the file will be an ASCII file which is supported by PowerCenter.
However, make sure that the file does not contain any COMP data which is not recognized by the ASCII format.
