FAQ: What is Edit XRef and is it expected that an edit XRef that is associated with a root record still points to the root record unmerged when you run a linear unmerge of the root record in MDM?
Answer
Edit XREF is an edit record that is created when manual changes are made to a record from the Master Data Management (MDM) Hub Console or Informatica Data Director (IDD) when the Source System is Admin.

Following is the criteria for XRef to be an edit record:

     1. Xref record must belong to the Admin system (SYS0, Admin).
     2. The value for the PUT_UPDATE_MERGE_IND column must be equal to 1.
     3. Value for the PKEY_SRC_OBJECT column must have a special format:
            The value must start with 'SYS:'

(In the older versions of MDM (MDM 9.1 and earlier versions), it was equal to ROWID_OBJECT)

Now when a linear unmerge of a root record is done, as the edit record XRef was created as part of manual changes to the record, it will still point to root record and will not point to the newly selected root among the other XRef's and this is the expected behavior.

With 10.4 there is a change in behavior of edit Xref where xref of other source systems other than Admin can be also be considered as edit Xref with the following parameter set to false. Below is the property which needs to be set to false:

com.informatica.mdm.sifapi.xref.edit.sys0.only=false

With above property set to false, edit Xref definition changed as following (system name condition to check for Admin source system will not be considered):

     1. The value for the PUT_UPDATE_MERGE_IND column must be equal to 1.

     2. Value for the PKEY_SRC_OBJECT column must have a special format:

            The value must start with 'SYS:'

Note

If you are firing Put call from Outside to perform load by rowid it will be considered as edit xref only if you pass its Pkey source starting with SYS: else it will be considered as normal Xref and during unmerge, it can get unmerged and exist on its own as BO record.

More Information
During the hard deletion of an XRef, Edit XRefs also will be deleted, if only ‘Edit Xrefs’ are left in the survived XRefs of that Base Object (BO)
