HOW TO: Identify files used by the Sorter transformation

The Sorter transformation uses several files in the filesystem to cache data. In some cases, you have to identify these files to monitor their size.

Do the following:

  1. Search for the following statement in the session log:

    SORT_40418 Definition for Transformation [SRTTRANS] is [-mem=53655960 -temp:prefix="PMSORT4_4_0_24","E:\PC861\PowerCenter8.6.1\server\infa_shared\Temp" -format:size=40 -meth:record -key=offset:3,size:11,char
  2. Using this statement, you can identify the directory used by the transformation. The files will use the specified prefix as the first part of their name.
  3. If this command is not present in the session log due to version differences in PowerCenter, do the following to display the statement:
    1. Open the session.
    2. Go to Config Object tab.
    3. In Error Handling, change Override tracing to Verbose Initialization.
