HOW TO: Increase Java heap size on IICS to allocate more memory to the JVM for large data processing with certain connectors

In IICS, with large data volume with Java based connectors, you might get error messages as follows:

[ERROR] java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space

To resolve such error messages, increase the Java heap space on the JVM of the Secure Agent. This is done as follows:

  1. Login into IICS.
  2. Click on Administrator > Runtime Environments.
  3. Edit the Secure Agent which is affected by the issue . Click the Triangle pointing down near the Secure Agent to see the option for Edit Secure Agent.
  4. In the Edit Page, Under System Configuration Details, Select the Service as Data Integration Server from drop down and select Type as DTM.
  5. Under the DTM Properties, there is an option JVMOption1 (if JVMOption1 is already populated, use JVMOption2 and so on).
  6. Enter the value -Xmx2048m.
  7. Click on SAVE to save the changes.
  8. Once the changes are saved, a new version of Data Integration Server is triggered. Note- There is no downtime until the new version comes Up. The jobs will continue to run normally.
