HOW TO: View the Relationship Hierarchy among the Entity tables in a Graphical Tree Structure using EDM client of DSG Data Archive
Solution
An Entity in Data Archive (DA) will be a collection of tables, which will be operated together. If any jobs are scheduled in Data Archive product, it would be on entity basis. All the archive job related actions would be performed on all table(s) part of the entity. That is, at 'Copy to Destination' step of the job, data from all tables in the entity would be copied into provided target. Similarly at 'Delete from Source' step of the job, data residing in the entity tables at source would be deleted.

Generally, Entity will have a parent table and its child tables grouped together.Relationship Hierarchy among the tables in the entity can be viewed in a Graphical Tree Representation using Enterprise Data Manager (EDM) client of Data Security Group (DSG) Data Archive. 'View Transaction Object' would be the option available in EDM for seeing the entity tables Relationship Hierarchy in Graphical Tree Structure Representation.

Pre-requisites

To view the Relationship Hierarchy among Entity Tables in a Graphical Tree Structure, following are the pre-requisites:

  • Mark 'Parent Table' of the Entity as 'Driving Table'.
  • Import Primary and Referential constraints of the tables into Entity as Entity Constraints
  • 'Validate Entity' and make sure 'Entity is Valid'
For instructions on setting Driving Table for an Entity, refer KB 485423
For instructions on importing Primary and Referential constraints of tables into Entity, follow the steps mentioned in KB 485520
For instructions on validating Entity, follow the steps mentioned in KB 485485

  • Launch EDM through 'Accelerators > Enterprise Data Manager' menu in Web UI
  • Once EDM is launched, open "View --> File Archive" tab
  • Navigate to the Product Family Version (PFV) ,containing the Entity, for which Relationship Hierarchy should be viewed

  • Right click the entity and select 'Validate Entity' option. For more detailed steps on validating entity and to fix the invalid entity, follow the steps mentioned in KB 485485
  • Once the 'Validate Entity' result is shown as 'Entity is Valid', Right click the entity and select "View Transaction Object" option.

  • Once 'View Transaction Object' option is selected, a new window will show the relationship among the entity tables. Displaying the relationship might take some time, depending on number of tables involved in the entity.
In the Relationship Hierarchy, initially only the Driving table will be listed and on clicking it, child tables related to it will be displayed. If any of the child tables have more child tables, then click on each of the tables to expand the hierarchy. View can be expanded till all the child tables in the entity are covered.

By default, Relationship Hierarchy would be shown in 'Horizontal Tree View', where child tables in the Relationship Tree would be expanded Horizontally ( Right to Left direction). It can be changed using 'Vertical' option, during which Relationship tree would be expanded in Vertical direction ( Top to Bottom )
