HOW TO: Set Driving Table for an Entity using EDM Client of DSG Data Archive

Entity in Data Archive (DA) will be a collection of tables, which will be operated together. If any jobs are scheduled in Data Archive product, it would be on entity basis. All the archive job related actions would be performed on all table(s) part of the entity. i.e. At 'Copy to Destination' step of the job, data from all tables in the entity would be copied into provided target. Similarly at 'Delete from Source' step of the job, data residing in the entity tables at source would be deleted.

Driving Table for the entity is the Parent of all the tables in the entity, from where Relationship Hierarchy will start.

i.e. If there are tables named 'TICKET', 'TICKET_COUPON', 'TICKET_SAVE' and 'TICKET_COUPON_SAVE' in the entity and if 'TICKET' table is the parent table for the other tables in the entity, then 'TICKET' would have to be set as 'Driving Table' of the entity.

Driving Table for entity would be set using Enterprise Data Manager (EDM) client of Data Security Group (DSG) Data Archive. Driving Table should be set for an Entity, if operations like 'Update Retention Policy', 'Purge Expired Records', 'Technical View Data Discovery ' etc. have to be performed based on relationship hierarchy.

In addition, if relationships among the tables in the entity needs to be viewed in Graphical Tree Representation, in that case also, Driving Table would have to be set. For more information on viewing Relationship Hierarchy in Graphical Tree representation, see KB 485410

Set Driving Table for an Entity

To set Driving Table for an Entity, execute the following steps:

  • Login to Data Archive Web UI
  • Launch EDM through 'Accelerators > Enterprise Data Manager' menu in Web UI
  • Once EDM is launched, open "View --> Database Archive" tab. Switch to 'Database Archive' tab, if already in some other tab of EDM.
  • Navigate to the Product Family Version (PFV) ,containing the entity for which 'Driving Table' needs to be set
  • Once navigated to required PFV, expand the Application Module under the PFV and select the required entity
  • After selecting Entity, on the right 'Driving Table' of the Entity, if set already, can be viewed. If the Driving Table is not set already, then the 'Driving Table' field value on the right would be empty.
  • To set a Driving Table or to change the Driving Table for the entity, if set already, Expand the Entity. Expanding Entity might take some time, depending on number of tables in the entity.
  • Once the Entity is expanded, all the tables available in the entity would be displayed.
  • In the expanded list of tables, select the required table, which needs to be set as Driving Table
  • After selecting required table, Right click the table and choose the option 'Mark as Entity Driving Table'
  • Once 'Mark as Entity Driving Table' option is chosen, save the changes to complete setting of Driving Table for the entity.
  • Once saved, select the Entity again to verify if the 'Driving Table' field on the right, has the correct Driving Table.
