“[[CCM_10541] Failed to create client for service [DomainService] with error [[DTF_0006] Unable to establish a session within the timeout period.]]” when starting Informatica Service after installing PowerCenter 9.1
Problem Description

After successfully installing PowerCenter 9.1, when starting the Informatica Service, it fails with the following error in the exceptions.log:

[[CCM_10541] Failed to create client for service [DomainService] with error [[DTF_0006] Unable to establish a session within the timeout period.]]

Following are the complete list of errors from Node.log:

[Domain Monitor] [DOM_10100] Getting the linked domain information from the domain configuration repository.
[Domain Monitor] [DOM_10102] The linked domains were successfully loaded from the domain configuration repository.
[Master Elect Data Writer] [DOM_10161] Stopped the writer thread for the master gateway node election. Deleting the data from the domain configuration repository.
[Master Elect Data Writer] [DOM_10146] Obtained the row level lock on the ISP_MASTER_ELECT_LOCK table.
[Master Elect Data Writer] [DOM_10147] Deleting the row for node [node01_dev] in the domain configuration repository.
[Master Elect Data Writer] [DOM_10147] Deleting the row for node [node01_dev] in the domain configuration repository.
[Master Elect Data Writer] [DOM_10151] Released row level lock on the ISP_MASTER_ELECT_LOCK table.
[Monitor Guaranteed Message Logger Thread] [CCM_10322] The following error occurred while logging to Log Service: [[CCM_10541] Failed to create client for service [DomainService] with error [[DTF_0006] Unable to establish a session within the timeout period.]].

This could also lead to the behavior that an installation in silent mode never finishes as the domain is not reachable.
Cause
Solution
To resolve this issue, set the environment variable INFA_JAVA_OPTS to increase the Java Heap memory size and restart the Informatica Services.
More Information
By default, Informatica uses a maximum of 512 MB of system memory. You can use the INFA_JAVA_OPTS environment variable to configure the amount of system memory used by Informatica.

Example

To configure 1 GB of system memory for the Informatica daemon, use the following command:

  • On UNIX in a C shell: setenv INFA_JAVA_OPTS “-Xmx1024m”.
  • On Windows: Configure INFA_JAVA_OPTS as a System Variable.
  • On 64-bit HP-UX on Itanium, add the -d64 switch.

Restart the node for the changes to take effect.
