ERROR: "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired" when loading BLOB column containing PDF files into target Oracle BLOB column results in corrupted/damaged PDFs
Problem Description

The source Oracle table contained a BLOB column with readable PDF files in it.  When trying to load that source table into a target Oracle table with native connection through a mapping where the Source Qualifier was connected to the target directly, the session ran successfully. However, when trying to open the PDF files from the target table BLOB column, the following message was displayed:

There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired

Cause
Solution

This is by design.

Workaround

To resolve this issue, do the following:

  1. In the mapping, add one Expression transformation that connects the Source Qualifier to target, as shown in the following image.

  2. Set the corresponding column size in Expression to a number that can accommodate the PDF file size.
  3. If there are other transformations in the mapping, ensure that all the relevant columns' sizes in the respective transformations are adjusted appropriately.
More Information

The initial max size for the imported BLOB column in Informatica Designer is 4000, which needs to be adjusted if 4000 is not large enough to hold the PDF file.
