ERROR: "Failed to process data: m: Failed to read input document" while running a webservice mapping in Linux environment using IICS CDI
Problem Description
While running a mapping task consisting of webservice transformation, the task fails to parse the rows to the target showing 0 records passed and ending in a success status. Upon checking the session log, the following error is observed:

[ERROR] Failed to process data: m: Failed to read input document.- for more information see file:///root/infaagent/apps/Data_Integration_Server/data/CMReports/Tmp/2019-07-31/WebServices_h2r_udt_ejgs0_ONLY_H2R_XMAP_H2R_U-_-b-5d415c69-5500/Events.cme
We can see the response is being returned successfully by the endpoint however it was not getting parsed. Upon checking the response which was being returned by the endpoint, it was observed that the response consisted of special characters however the agent machine was not configured to handle UTF-8 characters.

As the response was being sent with junk characters, the JSON structure was being invalidated. The DT parser was not able to parse this invalid json and the task failed with the above error.

One can verify the response structure in any JSON validator to identify if the structure is valid or not.
In order to remove the junk characters, we need to make sure the agent/agent machine is configured to process UTF-8 characters.

We can either set the following at the IICS agent UI level:

Or one can load these as part of the bash profile file as part of environment variables -

For Bourne shell (sh and bash)

export LC_LOCALE="en_US.UTF-8"
export LC_ALL="en_US.UTF-8"

For Korn shell (KSH)

export LC_LOCALE="en_US.UTF-8"
export LC_ALL="en_US.UTF-8"

For C shell (csh or tcsh)

setenv LC_LOCALE en_US.UTF-8
setenv LC_ALL en_US.utf8
